NLC India Wins 810 MW of the Solar Park Project
Reports of efforts supporting a sustainable future have dotted the World Wide Web considering the severe climate change events. Nations around the globe have dedicated a major chunk of their resources to developing long-term solutions for the ongoing crisis. It is high time India joins the efforts evident globally. With more than half of the country’s annual 151.66 billion units of energy requirement provided by fossil fuel, the nation bears a significant portion of the global climate change burden. It is ranked amongst the first 10 in the Climate Change Performance Index report, 2023. India’s energy industry is mainly sustained by coal and petroleum reserves.
We are rapidly burning through the available resources to sustain our growing population. With the depleting reserves painting a dire future, the country is quickly undergoing transformative changes. We are shifting to sustainable living to prolong the existing non-renewables. Solar energy is the preferred route for most due to its relatively higher output for the cost of implementation. The ongoing bid for the Solar Park project in Rajasthan is a live example of the country’s dedication to the cause.
NLC India Limited (NLCIL), previously known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, won an 810 MW tender for the Solar Park project upcoming in Bikaner district of Rajasthan. This is the largest renewable energy project ever handled by the state-run company. The parent ultra mega Solar Park project involves the development of the Pugal Tehsil into a modern solar-powered region for public use. Considering its geographical location and overall climate, Rajasthan is the best candidate in India for solar-powered development.
Optimum conditions and sound solar radiation give the state a statistical advantage due to an easily obtainable higher capacity utilization factor (CUF). Due to this, it can generate more than 50 billion units of green energy. Easily offsetting the 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions generated during the project’s development phase, the Navratna company is optimistic about its outputs. Simultaneously contributing to the state’s economy, this project is expected to bring Rajasthan’s existing power generation capacity to 1.36 GW.

The tender was initially released by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RRVUNL) to install solar photovoltaic units in the Bikaner district. Entrusted with the development of several projects under the state sector, RRVUNL considered many companies. NLCIL successfully obtained the whole 810 MW tender with its proposal. With the Letter of Intent of the project already issued by RRVUNL, only the project’s land transfer and the power evacuation system connected to the State Transmission Utility (STU) is pending.
However, the Tamil Nadu-based company share has already gained 0.74% to trade at INR 135.80 on NSE. The Public sector undertakings company has already established itself with projects ranging from 50 MW to 600 MW capacity power generation under its belt. Some of its achievements involve a 50 MW solar installation on mined-out lands, A 300 MW project under a Central public sector undertakings (CPSU) scheme in Barsingsar, Rajasthan, and the 600 MW Khavda Solar project of Gujarat, in Bhuj district.
